Fall Reading Assessment Reflections

During part of our December 1st Pro-D Day, teachers looked at the results of our school-wide fall reading assessments and worked together in grade-similar teams to answer the following questions:

  1. What did you learn from your class reading assessments? (strengths/stretches).
  2. What kind of literacy strategies/structures are you finding successful in your classroom now?
  3. What are one or two literacy strategies or structures you are going to try in December with your class?
  4. Ideas moving forward: how do we want to collaborate as a school to improve our responses to reading?

Please see the attached document which summarizes these results.

At our January 26th Pro-D Day, in the afternoon, staff will be discussing what is working well so far and will create a brief set of questions to ask students about how they make meaning from their reading.  We will then re-visit these questions at the end of the year to see if our strategies/structures are having an impact.  This is the start of a multi-year journey to improve our responses to what we are reading/listening to.
