Student Numeracy Survey Comparison - November 2022 to May 2023

We compared data from Student Math Mindset Surveys in November 2022 to May 2023. We were interested to see if there were any differences in the student data from November 2022 to May 2023, after almost a full year of learning about the power of a positive mathematical mindset, incorporating hands on math activities, and including weekly activities to develop computational fluency.

The comparison of data from the November 2022 survey to the May 2023 survey did show positive growth in many areas across all grade levels. Generally we saw a shift from 'Emerging' and 'Developing' proficiencies to 'Proficient' and 'Extending' proficiencies. These surveys along with staff observations of student growth during classroom lessons tells us we are moving in the right direction.

We do intend to adjust how we group our survey data moving forward to the 2023-2024 school year. We will focus on identifying the grade of the student in our surveys rather than the division the student is in. This will help us compare cohort data from one year to the next. For example, we can compare Grade 4 student data in May 2023 with Grade 5 student data in May 2024 (the majority of the students in both surveys will be the same).
